- Focus on one to two long-tail keywords that match the intent of the reader.
- Use keywords in your title, meta description, headings and URL and include targeted keywords (and variations) in the copy.
- Start with the end in mind: What is the reader going to get out of the article? What are they going to learn? Include keywords in the first few sentences.
- Break up content with headings so that it’s easily scannable.
- Keep blocks of text short: three to four lines max.
- 25% of all sentences should have less than 20 words.
- 30% of all sentences should contain transition words.
- Use active voice over passive voice. Only 10% of all sentences should use passive voice.
- Readability score should be above 60 on the Flesch Kincaid Reading Ease test.
- Include eye catching image(s) and add keywords to the alt tag(s). Images can also help break up content.
- Word count goals = 800- 2000.
- Include Call to Action at the end or where it makes sense.
- Add tags that relate to the content and targeted keywords.
- Include at least two external links.
- Link to other internal pages.
